How to have a good Time at Top Golf or a Driving Range

Personally, I am not a big golfer. I love to go out three or four times a year with friends and play, but i’s not a sport I could play everyday. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to play without going a full 18 rounds, and not have take it too seriously, whether it be at a simple driving range, or a venue like Top Golf with friends. We hit one up recently and had a ton of fun, didn’t care what people thought, and were eventually “politely asked to leave”.  If you are like me, and do not take golf too seriously, here are a few ways to make hitting at the driving range or local Top Golf a lot more enjoyable.

#1) Happy Gilmore

Everyone has done it once or twice in their lives. It’s a must do. But, once or twice is not enough. To really make the game more fun, take a driver and go to town. On every shot, wind up, step forward, and let it fly. Forget all golf mechanics you have been taught, because chances are you never have, and just let it fly, just like Happy would. (Sidenote: If for some reason you haven’t seen Happy Gilmore, stop reading and go watch it right now for your own sake). Unleash your frustrations onto the ball swinging as hard as you can. It will feel great. Plus, it’s fun. Very fun. And if it actually works, you’ll look like a complete badass.

#2) Yelling “Fore” After Every Shot

Just to be clear, the expression is Fore, not Four. It originated in Australia. Yelling Fore is a must do in golf. It just sounds cool, and people will think you’re legit, at least the first time. There’s not much too this one, just that being as loud and obnoxious as possible on a driving range and in life is just fun to do.

#3) Dress to Perfection

Golf attire is a good thing. You always look good. However, there are ways to look even better. A good way to remember, the flashier the better. You definitely want to wear as many flamboyant colors as possible. Turquoise, pink, lime green and carolina blue are good choices, that’s just the way it’s done. I’ve written before that the better you look, the better you play. That holds true everywhere, especially on the golf driving range or at the golf course in general. The louder you dress, the cooler you are, it’s science.

#4) Bat Flips

Bat Flips are the most underrated exciting thing in all of sports. If you saw Jose Bautista’s bat flip, you know what I am talking about. It’s the built up aggression, tension, hours of work, sweat, blood, the culmination of all of your hard work. It’s exhilarating. Bat flips with golf clubs, also phenomenal. You call your shot and do it right, pure gold.

If you are on the driving range, follow these four tips. Wear a bold outfit that pushes the boundaries of socially acceptable. Walk into your shots happy gilmore-esque. Yell “Fore” at the top of your lungs. Finish it all off with an eccentric bat flip that even Yasiel Puig would be jealous off. That is how to make the most of your driving range day, or top golf marathon, even though it may get you kicked off.
